– Review

Dhirav and Ismath Banu are a happily married couple, but even after five years after their marriage the couple does not have a child.

A couple from Chennai who visit their village, suggest Dhirav and Ismath Banu to seek medical help.

However, the couple resort to religious prayers. Soon, Dhirav starts to feel the pressure from the society and is almost on the verge of mental instability.

Dhirav’s mother suggests that he gets married to his younger niece. On the other hand, Ismath Banu convinces Dhirav to seek medical assistance.

What happens next forms the core story of Veppam Kulir Mazhai.

Directed by Pascal Vedamuthu, the biggest strength of the movie is the way in which proceedings are depicted in a raw and rustic manner.

The movie captures the local customs in an authentic manner and delves deep into the problems faced by infertile couples.

The film talks about the emotional turmoil faced by the couple because of the expectations of the society.

The lead actors have lived in their respective characters which is very convincing. They have delivered a compelling performance which is enhanced by the chemistry between them.

The movie has a splendid supporting cast which includes MS Bhaskar, Rama, Master Karthikeyan and Dev Habibullah.

Music by Shankar is impressive and Prithvi Rajendran’s camera has captured things in an effective manner.

Rating: 3.5/5
