The Verdict

– Review

Suhasini Mani Ratnam, a billionaire, is found dead, her close friend and well-wisher Sruthi Hariharan is accused of cutting off her oxygen supply and murdering her.
Sruthi is blamed to have murdered Suhasini as she was added to her will and stood to inherit a staggering $150 billion.
Varalaxmi Sarathkumar appears on behalf of Sruthi to prove her innocence. What happens next forms the rest of the movie.
Director Krishna Sankar opts for a non-linear narrative and the first half is used to set up the movie nicely.
It feels like the director wanted to make the audience as the jury and decide who was guilty. This has worked out to some extent.
Sruthi Hariharan shoulders the movie and does most of the heavy lifting, showing a wide range of emotions.
Varalaxmi plays to her strengths in the limited screentime that she gets.
She has done well as a lawyer and has a reassuring presence in the  courtroom. Prakash Mohandas, too, brings the right mix of restraint and emotion to her character. Rest of the supporting cast have also done their part well.
Aditya Rao’s background score is impressive and Arvind Krishna’s camera has captured the courtroom proceedings in an interesting manner. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are good as well.

Rating: 3.75/5
