Vetri appears as a journalist whose murder drives the entire narrative. Rather than presenting him as a fully fleshed-out individual, the film treats him more as the lingering presence around which every event revolves.

His screen time is limited, yet he leaves an impression during the courtroom revelations, where subtle expressions and controlled body language hint at the darker shades of his character. Even so, the screenplay offers little opportunity to understand him beyond his role as the incident that sparks the investigation.

Rangaraj Pandey, portraying the legendary actor, delivers the film’s standout performance. His interpretation goes beyond portraying a man accused of a crime; he captures the emotional conflict of someone struggling to reconcile public admiration with deeply personal failings. During the sequences that gradually expose his involvement, Pandey balances anger, disbelief and vulnerability with remarkable restraint, making the character far more compelling than a conventional cinematic antagonist.

One of the film’s finest moments unfolds during the execution sequence. Director Dayal Padmanabhan stages the scene with patience, allowing silence and hesitation to communicate emotions that dialogue could never fully express.

The screenplay largely follows a straightforward narrative while occasionally shifting timelines to provide additional context.

The background score effectively heightens tension during key confrontations and prison sequences without becoming intrusive. Visually, the film adopts a grounded and realistic approach, relying on authentic courtroom and prison settings. Although this suits the subject matter, the cinematography rarely offers memorable imagery beyond serving the narrative.

Despite its shortcomings, ‘Lakshmikanthan Kolai Vazhakku‘ remains an earnest attempt to explore justice from an uncommon perspective.
