’Nallapadam’ Set to Hit Screens on September 18; A Socio-Commercial Entertainer Blending Humour with a Strong Social Message

Tamil cinema has often used humour and commercial entertainment as an effective way to address socially relevant issues, and ‘Nallapadam’ arrives in the same space with a distinctive premise that combines comedy, romance, sentiment and a strong social message. Directed by Praburam C, the film stars Dr. A. Harish in the lead, with Dhanalakshmi as the female lead, and is gearing up for its theatrical release on September 18, 2026.

The story revolves around Kumaran, a man whose entire world revolves around alcohol. While his mother stands by him, his sister Amutha strongly opposes his drinking habit, and his girlfriend makes every effort to change his ways. Meanwhile, a group of people who share his love for alcohol form an association and choose Kumaran as their leader. His life takes an unexpected turn when the government announces a nationwide ban on alcohol, leaving him to confront the challenge of living without the one thing that has defined his world.

What follows forms the crux of ‘Nallapadam’, as Kumaran finds himself caught in a series of humorous and unexpected situations while trying to deal with the new reality. The film also explores the impact of alcohol on individuals, families and society, bringing together humour, romance, sentiment, social awareness and mass-oriented entertainment. With its unusual premise and socio-commercial treatment, the film aims to deliver its message while keeping the entertainment quotient intact.

The film features Motta Rajendran, Kalki Raja, Rama and Priyadharshini alongside the lead cast. The technical team comprises iniyan j harris as cinematographer, B.R. Prakash as editor and Sagishna Xavier as music composer. Asmin has worked as a lyricist.

மதுவுக்கு அடிமையான குமரனை மையமாகக் கொண்டு கதை நகர்கிறது. அவரது தாயார் எப்போதும் அவருக்கு ஆதரவாக இருக்கிறார். ஆனால், அவரது சகோதரி அமுதா, குமரனின் குடிப்பழக்கத்தை கடுமையாக எதிர்க்கிறார். அவரது காதலியும் குமரனை அந்தப் பழக்கத்திலிருந்து மாற்றுவதற்குத் தொடர்ந்து முயற்சி செய்கிறார்.

இதற்கிடையே, குமரனைப் போலவே மதுவை விரும்பும் சிலர் ஒன்றிணைந்து ஓர் அமைப்பை உருவாக்கி, குமரனை அதன் தலைவராகத் தேர்வு செய்கின்றனர். இந்நிலையில், நாடு முழுவதும் மதுவுக்கு அரசு தடை விதிப்பதாக அறிவிக்கிறது. இதனால், தனது வாழ்க்கையாக இருந்த மதுவின்றி எப்படி வாழ்வது என்ற மிகப்பெரிய சவாலை குமரன் எதிர்கொள்ள வேண்டிய சூழல் உருவாகிறது. அதன்பிறகு குமரனின் வாழ்க்கையில் நிகழும் எதிர்பாராத சம்பவங்களும், புதிய சூழலை சமாளிக்க அவர் எதிர்கொள்ளும் நகைச்சுவையான பிரச்சினைகளுமே ‘நல்லபடம்’.
