Rajamouli resumes ‘Varanasi’ shoot; massive 3,500-performer battle sequence planned

Acclaimed director SS Rajamouli has returned to India after completing a successful visit to France, where he participated in several prestigious international film events. During the tour, his celebrated films ‘RRR’ and ‘Eega’ were screened for global audiences, followed by interactive sessions and masterclasses on filmmaking.

One of the standout moments of the trip was Rajamouli receiving recognition from the Institut Lumière in Lyon, adding another notable achievement to his distinguished career.

While speaking, Rajamouli offered an update on his upcoming big-budget film ‘Varanasi’. He revealed that production has entered its final stretch, with most of the large-scale action sequences already completed. The director mentioned that roughly 80 days of shooting are still pending, leaving sufficient time for the extensive post-production work the film requires.

The next filming schedule is set to begin on July 7 in Hyderabad and is expected to feature one of the project’s grandest sequences. Industry reports indicate that Rajamouli will film an elaborate war episode involving nearly 3,500 junior artists. The sequence is expected to be further elevated through advanced visual effects during post-production, making it one of the film’s biggest highlights.
