Director Geetu Mohandas has opened up about her creative collaboration with Yash on ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’, describing the experience as one that reshaped her approach to filmmaking.
Geetu, who has previously participated in international writing programmes such as the Sundance and Rotterdam labs, said working with Yash created a very different kind of creative environment.
According to the filmmaker, their collaboration brought together two distinct cinematic sensibilities. While Yash introduced her to the world of mainstream commercial entertainers such as ‘Padayappa’, Geetu shared films including Wong Kar-wai’s ‘In the Mood for Love’.
The exchange, she said, gradually helped the two find a common creative language and influenced the tone and character development of ‘Toxic’.
Geetu also revealed that Yash encouraged her to adopt a more structured approach to writing. She described herself as someone who usually allows ideas to develop organically but said Yash repeatedly insisted that the details be clearly developed on paper.
The director said this process had helped shape the performances and characters in the film, suggesting that the actors would be seen in ways audiences may not have experienced before.
She expressed particular confidence about Yash’s role, promising that ‘Toxic’ would showcase a fresh and transformed version of the actor. ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’ is one of Yash’s most anticipated upcoming projects, with Geetu Mohandas directing the action drama.
