An emotional journey
‘Meiyazhagan’ Movie
– Review
Arvind Swamy along with his family had left his hometown after losing their house due to certain misfortune.
Years go by soon and Arvind Swamy returns to his native to attend a wedding.
It becomes a bitter-sweet journey of homecoming to Arvind Swamy, as he meets a relative Karthi, who sports an infectious and childlike smile, and brims with innocence, as the former struggles to recollect who he is.
The bonding between these two characters and what happens after that forms the core plot of the movie.
Directed by Prem Kumar the movie is a testament to the small joys of life, the random acts of kindness that can change people’s lives.
The director has also sprinkled some political matters such as Sterlite killings and Jallikattu protests on the course of the movie.
The narrative of the movie is told in an effective manner with some flashbacks here and there.
Arvind Swamy and Karthi have played their roles perfectly. Both of them are very casual in their approach which is one of the biggest strengths of the movie.
Karthi and Arvind Swamy brilliantly shoulder the film with their simple yet nuanced performances.
Arvind Swamy as a restrained man who needs time to loosen up fits the character perfectly.
Karthi as the talkative relative grows on the audience slowly. This seems like a character tailor made for him.
Rest of the characters including Sri Divya, Devadarshini and Raj Kiran have all done their part well.
The cinematography by Mahendiran Jayaraju is top notch. Govind Vasantha’s music is haunting and complements the film in the best way possible.
