“Kuberaa” Movie Review by Naveen
Clash of ideologies
“Kuberaa”
-Review
A disillusioned CBI officer Nagarjuna Akkineni devises a grand scam involving massive black money, recruiting unassuming beggars as unwitting pawns.
At the heart of this intricate web is Dhanush, a humble beggar who, through a series of unforeseen events, begins to turn the tables on his manipulators, ascending from the streets to a position of unexpected influence.
Dhanush is the undeniable soul of the movie. His portrayal of Deva is a masterclass in subtlety and raw emotion.
He doesn’t just play the role; he becomes Deva, meticulously capturing the vulnerability and quiet strength of a man who has nothing but his sheer will to survive.
The film is studded with moments where Dhanush’s expressions and body language alone speak volumes, making his transformation from destitution to calculated power truly believable and captivating.
Nagarjuna Akkineni provides a powerful counterpoint as Deepak, the morally ambiguous mastermind.
His sophisticated yet calculating demeanor creates a compelling dynamic with Dhanush’s character.
Their scenes together are particularly impactful, showcasing a clash of ideologies and worlds that drives much of the narrative’s tension.
Director Sekhar Kammula steps out of his usual comfort zone with this movie crafting a gritty and realistic world that feels authentic.
The film’s pacing is deliberately slow, allowing the audience to truly immerse themselves in the characters’ journeys and the unfolding complexities of the plot, this might test the patience of viewers accustomed to more rapid-fire action.
However, for those who appreciate nuanced storytelling, Kammula’s direction shines through in his ability to extract powerful performances and weave in relevant social commentary without resorting to overt preachiness.
The philosophical undertones of the film, exploring the corrosive nature of greed and the ethical dilemmas faced by its characters, are well-handled and thought-provoking.
Rashmika Mandanna delivers a good performance, serving as a vital emotional anchor in an otherwise intense narrative. Jim Sarbh, in his role as a mysterious businessman, adds another layer of intrigue and effectively portrays his enigmatic character.
The technical aspects of ‘Kuberaa’ are commendable. Devi Sri Prasad’s background score is a standout, effectively enhancing the film’s mood and tension, elevating key scenes without overpowering them.
Niketh Bommireddy’s cinematography is another major strength, lending a visually rich and authentic feel to the proceedings, particularly in depicting the stark contrasts between poverty and opulence.
