Rashmika Mandanna is reportedly being considered to portray legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biographical film backed by Geetha Arts.
The project has been the subject of speculation for some time, with several leading actresses reportedly considered for the central role. Rukmini Vasanth and Sai Pallavi were among the names said to have been seriously considered.
However, recent reports suggest that Sai Pallavi may no longer be part of the project because of her commitments to the two-part ‘Ramayana’. Rashmika is now said to be the frontrunner to take on the challenging role.
Director Gowtam Tinnanuri, known for films including ‘Jersey’, is reportedly attached to the project. Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas are also expected to be involved as producers.
The biopic is reportedly being planned for an official launch on September 16, which marks MS Subbulakshmi’s birth anniversary. However, the casting and other details are yet to receive formal confirmation from the makers.
MS Subbulakshmi remains one of the most celebrated figures in Indian classical music. She was the first musician to receive the Bharat Ratna and became the first Indian musician to win the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1974. She also made history by performing at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966.
Before becoming renowned primarily as a vocalist, Subbulakshmi appeared in several films during the early phase of her career between 1938 and 1947.
Meanwhile, Rashmika is recovering after suffering a hip injury while working on ‘Mysaa’. The actor recently made a public appearance with her husband Vijay. Her upcoming projects include ‘Ranabaali’, scheduled for October 16, while ‘Mysaa’ is yet to receive a release date.
