Director S.S. Rajamouli is taking his globetrotting epic, ‘Varanasi’, to a location rarely seen in cinema: Antarctica.
Lead actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas confirmed the news during a social media exchange with Mahesh Babu, telling him, “See you soon in Antarctica.”
The team is expected to film at the Ross Ice Shelf, making Varanasi the first Indian film to ever shoot on the frozen continent.
This segment of the film will reportedly depict a lost civilization buried under the ice, blending Rajamouli’s signature mythology with high-concept science fiction.
The production is moving at a breakneck pace, with 14 months of filming already completed.
This ambitious schedule highlights the massive scale of the project, which is being shot using IMAX cameras to capture the stark, white landscapes.
Fans are already calling it a landmark moment for Indian cinema, as the film prepares for its April 7, 2027 global release.
