Actress Kalyani Priyadarshan grew up around cinema, being the daughter of filmmaker Priyadarshan and actress Lizzy. Her childhood exposure to film sets eventually sparked an interest in the industry, although her journey into acting was not something her parents initially encouraged.

Kalyani studied Architectural Design at Parsons School of Design in New York before working in the art department behind the camera. Despite that experience, she eventually decided that acting was the career she wanted to pursue.

In a recent interview, the actress explained that her parents’ concerns were largely connected to the demanding working conditions associated with filmmaking rather than the glamour surrounding the profession.

According to Kalyani, her parents were particularly worried about the physical and mental demands of film production. She pointed to the experience of working on ‘Lokah’, which involved extensive night shoots, as an example of the kind of schedule that can take a toll on actors.

She also revealed that her brother Sidharth has pursued a career in cinema as a VFX artist, meaning both siblings eventually found their way into the film industry despite their parents’ initial reservations.

Kalyani has built a filmography that includes movies such as ‘Varane Avashyamund’ and ‘Hridayam’. Her latest major success, ‘Lokah’, became one of the biggest Malayalam films and emerged as the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, according to the report.

The actress is now working in Mumbai on her first Hindi film, ‘Pralay’, which stars Ranveer Singh. Directed by Jai Mehta, the project is described as a post-apocalyptic zombie thriller. Kalyani said the film is an intense undertaking and is expected to keep her occupied until the end of the year.
