With pressure increasing on him from various quarters, it is said that Vijay Sethupathi would walk out of ‘800’, a biopic on Sri Lankan Tamil cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan.
“Vijay Sethupathi is exploring all possibilities. He would take an appropriate decision and announce it formally,” sources said.
Film personalities and social media users have been urging Vijay Sethupathi to walk out of the project. Actor Vivek said, “Someone who is loved by people needs to know what people want”.
The movie, to be directed by M S Sripathi, has been titled ‘800’ marking Muttiah Muralitharan’s wickets in Test Cricket.
Ever since the motion poster of the film was unveiled, ‘Shame on Vijay Sethupathi’ trend caught on in a big way on Twitter.
One user wrote, “Always admired Vijay Sethupathi as an actor. But now he shattered respect I had on him now by making this traitor’s life history who openly supported modern day dictator Rajapaksa. Murali himself said 2009 was his happiest year of his life #ShameOnVijaySethupati.”
