Veteran Tamil film director V. Sekar passed away at the age of 74 following an illness at a private hospital in Porur, Chennai. He was a celebrated filmmaker primarily active during the 1990s and early 2000s.

Sekar was a pioneer in creating successful, family-centric films that were particularly beloved by the middle-class audience for their wholesome blend of comedy, social commentary, and a recognizable personal touch.
His directorial debut was ‘Neengalum Hero Thaan’ (1990), followed by classics like ‘Kaalam Maari Pochu’, ‘Viralukku Ethantha Veekkam’, and ‘Varavu Ettana Selavu Pathana’.
