The movie’s synopsis centers around Ilanchet Chenni, a Chola Prince bestowed with the power of immortality. In his quest for his lost love, he embarks on a remarkable time-travel journey, traversing the ages to the present day. Armed with his traditional martial arts skills and profound knowledge of weaponry, he confronts the prevailing problems of the present era, rejuvenating existence by eradicating the darkest and most destructive aspects of humanity. Through his actions, he seeks to restore righteousness and rid the world of unrighteousness.
When questioned about the film, director Sathish Ramakrishnan explained, “This is a time-travel story wherein a prince from 2500 years ago journeys to the present through the mysteries of time. Witnessing the challenges and issues of the current era, we have captured his efforts to overcome them using his martial arts prowess. The film revolves around Young Ilanchetchenni Karikal Varman, a prince who has been unjustly forgotten by history and religious narratives. It is an entirely martial arts-based film, featuring nine gripping action sequences. One could describe it as a martial arts science fiction action film, presenting viewers with unprecedented experiences and thrilling adventures.”As computer technology has continuously mesmerized audiences in foreign language films, particularly in Hollywood, its role is paramount in “Kataana.”Notably, Sathish Ramakrishnan has not only directed but also written the story, screenplay, dialogues, and songs for “Kataana.” He even assumes the role of the film’s protagonist, showcasing his versatility and dedication to the project. Alongside him, Alfia from Coimbatore portrays the lead character, adding depth and authenticity to the film.
