The concept of time travel in films is largely regarded as science fiction as opposed to fantasy. The concept has progressed from being merely a fantasy, to the main theme of a movie . Here are a few Kollywood movies that have time travel as their core plot.
‘Mark Antony’:
Directed by Adhik Ravichandran. The film has Vishal and SJ Suryah in dual roles. The film is a science-fiction action drama. The movie focuses on time travel, and the plot of the story revolves around a father-son duo. The concept of time travel is used well in this movie.
‘Dikkilona’:
The story is set in the future in 2027 where Mani (Santhanam) an EB employee’s marriage is on the rocks. When he stumbles onto a time machine in a science lab he decides to travel back and stop his wedding. The result of that travel gives birth to two more versions of him and what happens next is the fun-filled story of ‘Dikkilona’.
’24’:
The movie features Suriya and Samantha as the protagonists. The movie was directed by Vikram Kumar. The plot revolves around a brilliant scientist who designs a wristwatch capable of time travel. However, his brother eliminates him in his pursuit of the device. The scientist however ensures that the watch does not fall into his brother’s hands. The watch eventually ends up with a watchmaker, the scientist’s son, who embarks on a journey to unravel his own past.
‘Indru Netru Naalai’:
Released in 2015, ‘Indru Netru Naalai’ features Vishnu Vishal in the lead role and was directed by Ravi Kumar. The storyline centers on a time machine that comes into the possession of two friends. Through an accidental journey back to 1980, they find themselves trapped in that era. The core plot lies in their efforts to rectify the past and comprehend the consequences of their actions.
‘Maanaadu’:
‘Maanaadu’ revolves around an individual and a police officer trapped in a time loop during the chief minister’s public address. The story entails the protagonist and antagonist being ensnared in an unending cycle, compelled to relive the exact instance repeatedly even as they strive to break free.
‘Game Over’:
‘Game Over’, featuring Tapsee Pannu in the lead, is a psychological thriller that explores the concept of a time loop. The film centers on a young woman in a wheelchair dealing with PTSD, trapped in a recurring time loop where she faces her own demise daily.
