2025 will be the year when almost every big star in Kollywood will have a release, while there are also some small but promising films sandwiched between.
So, here are the Tamil films which we think will become blockbusters:
‘Thug Life’:
‘Thug Life’ marks the illustrious reunion of veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam and actor Kamal Haasan after their 1987 film Nayakan. Everything about ‘Thug Life’ is sure to become a blockbuster in 2025, right from its music by AR Rahman, to its star-studded cast including actors Silambarasan, Ashok Selvan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Gautham Karthik, Joju George, Abhirami, Nasser and Hindi actor Ali Fazal. ‘Thug Life’ is expected to be a gangster action drama and is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies.
‘Coolie’:
While every Superstar Rajinikanth film is a fanfare affair, ‘Coolie’ will mark the actor’s first collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj. ‘Coolie’ is touted to be a gangster drama that will not be under LCU. The film will feature an ensemble star cast including Soubin Shahir, Nagarajuna, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj. ‘Coolie’ has music by the happening composer, Anirudh Ravichander, and is backed by Sun Pictures. It will be indeed interesting to see what kind of film Lokesh is making with Rajinikanth.
‘Thalapathy 69’:
‘Thalapathy 69’ starring Vijay is expected to be the actor’s final film, as he has taken up politics in Tamil Nadu. Helmed by H Vinoth, the film will have Beast actor Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priya Mani, Gautham Menon, and others, making it truly a pan-Indian affair. ‘Thalapathy 69’ has huge expectations on it, given scores of Vijay fans are awaiting to watch their favorite star onscreen, perhaps for one last time.
‘SK 23’:
A title might not be yet attached to the project, but ‘SK 23’ is expected to be a blockbuster continuing Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran success. Directed by AR Murugadoss, a filmmaker who has given hits to stars like Ajith, Vijay, and Suriya, SK 23 is expected to conjure the same magic to Sivakarthikeyan as well. Rukmini Vasanth will be playing the female lead in the film, which also stars Vikranth, Biju Menon, and Vidyut Jammwal.
‘Retro’:
Actor Suriya, whose recent film Kanguva, did not do well, thrilled his fans with the teaser of his upcoming film ‘Retro’. The film is directed by Karthik Subbaraj, who has confirmed the film to be an action romantic drama. While Suriya now has fans across India, and ‘Retro’ coming out as a refreshing film, all eyes are set on the film. Pooja Hegde, Joju George, and others are part of the film.
‘Veera Dheera Sooran’:
‘Veera Dheera Sooran’ comes from director SU Arun Kumar, who made the critically acclaimed film ‘Chithha’. The film is headlined by Vikram, along with Dushara Vijayan, SJ Sruyah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and others. It is interesting to note that the upcoming film is the second part, with the prequel to be released later. Vikram, whose ‘Thangalaan’ became a success across India, has now become a popular face across industries.
‘Good Bad Ugly’ and ‘Vidaamuyarchi’:
‘Good Bad Ugly’ is Ajith Kumar-starrer helmed by young director Adhik Ravichandran. With the film produced by Mythri Movie Makers, and the looks of Ajith released recently making fans rejoice, ‘Good Bad Ugly’ is expected to show Ajith in a different avatar. Apart from this Ajith will also be seen in ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ directed by Magizh Thirumeni.
