Tamil movies that are gearing up for release in second half of 2024 – F’day Spl. Article by Naveen


As the first quarter of 2024 comes to an end, there haven’t been many significant Tamil releases to date. Many of the new releases that were originally scheduled to release in April are now being pushed back to a later date due to the Lok Sabha election. The makers of “Vettaiyan” starring Rajinikanth and “Indian 2” starring Kamal Haasan have announced the release dates. Here are some movies that will be released in the second half of 2024.


The makers of Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyan’ have announced that the movie will be released in October. The final schedule of the film is underway. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, ‘Vettaiyan’ is reportedly inspired by a real-life story, and Rajinikanth plays a cop, who will fight for a social cause. The supporting cast of the film includes Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, and VJ Rakshan among others.

‘Indian 2’:

The makers of Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Indian 2’ directed by Shankar have announced that the movie will be released in June. Kamal Haasan will be seen again in his powerful character as Senapathy.  The reunion of the successful duo hyped the audience well for the film. Music for the movie will be by Anirudh Ravichander.

‘The GOAT’:

Vijay has joined hands with director Venkat Prabhu for ‘GOAT’. The makers have announced that the movie will be released on 5 September on Vinayagar Chathurthy. The film is reported to be a time travel film. Vijay plays a dual role, and the film’s shooting is happening now in Russia. The post-production of the film will take an extended time due to the VFX work.


Ajith starrer ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ has been in production for a year now, and the film’s final schedule is to commence soon. ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ is reported to be a suspense-packed film, and the film might be released in theatres this Deepavali. Ajith’s first look is expected to be unveiled on May 1 during the actor’s birthday, and it is expected to have the film’s release date.


Vikram starrer ‘Thangalaan’ directed by Pa Ranjith was the first film to step out from April release due to the Lok Sabha election. ‘Thangalaan’ is now rescheduled to release in theatres this May. The exact release date is expected to be announced soon.’Thangalaan’ is a period drama set between the 1870s and 1940s, and it will explain the evolution of Kolar Gold Field (KGF)


Suriya joined hands with director Siruthai Siva for the periodic drama ‘Kanguva’, and the mega-budget film is planned to be released in 10 Indian languages. The post-production work of ‘Kanguva’ is heading smoothly, and the makers are aiming to release the film this September. This will be Suriya’s first theatrical release after two years.


Dhanush starrer ‘Raayan’ is all set to hit the screens in the first week of June, making it a release date right after the school reopens in Tamilnadu. Dhanush’s Raayan is almost done with its post production work too, and the actor is expected to return back from the shoot of ‘Kubera’ and immediately get started with his work on the promotions and marketing for the film. Music for the movie is by A R Rahman.


Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming film SK 21 has been titled ‘Amaran’. The film is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, with Kamal Haasan backing the film under the banner Raaj Kamal Films International.The teaser reveals that the film is set in Kashmir’s Shopian, which is known to be a politically charged and volatile land of violence and terrorism. Sivakarthikeyan is shown to be the head of an infantry troop named 44 RR Cheetah Company, giving commands to his foot soldiers. There are blasts, cries, and terrorism, amid which Sivakarthikeyan is shown to be a valiant military officer. Sai Pallavi, Rahul Bose, and Lallu also appear in significant roles. Release date of the movie is expected to be announced soon.
