Recent films in Kollywood have been using a lot of old classic tracks and songs in their films. These songs undoubtedly cater to a wide audience and help the films get noticed easily. Sometimes these movies get into trouble when they use the songs which are composed by Ilayaraja. Recently, the music composer sent a legal notice to the team of Ajith’s ‘Good Bad Ugly’ for using his songs without his permission. Let us take a look at some of the recent movies which had reference to Ilaiyaraja’s songs.
‘Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan’:
‘Kanmani anbodu kadhalan’ from Kamal Haasan starrer ‘Guna’ went viral on the Internet as a friendship album, thanks to the placement of the song’s lyrics in the climax of the Malayalam flick ‘Manjummel Boys’. ‘Manjummel Boys’ is about the struggles of a group of friends from the Manjummel town in Kerala after one of them accidentally slips into a deep pit while on a holiday in Kodaikanal.
‘Indha Maan’:
‘Indha Maan’ song from the movie ‘Karakattakaran’ starring Ramarajan and Kanika was used in one of the key sequences of the recently release ‘Meiyazhagan’ starring Karthi and Arvindswamy. The movie directed by C Premkumar also had references to the song ‘Kodai Kala Katre’ from the movie ‘Panneer Pushpangal’. It may be noted that Premkumar’s previous movie ’96’ had also several references to songs composed by Ilaiyaraja.
‘Nee Pottu Vecha’:
‘Nee Pottu Vecha’ song from Vijayakanth starrer ‘Ponmana Selvan’ went viral after it was used in one of the key moments to elevate a character in the movie ‘Lubber Pandhu’. The 80s song’s homage in the cricket drama slithered into streaming apps of Gen-Z listeners as not just as a catchy tune, but also as a stellar example of hero-elevation music.
‘Sorgame Endralum’:
A remixed track of Ilaiyaraaja’s very cool ‘Sorgame Endralum’ from ‘Ooru vittu Ooru Vandhu’ was used in the Vijay’s ‘The Goat’ directed by Venkat Prabhu. The music for the movie was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the song immediately stuck a chord with the fans.
‘En Iniya Pon Nilvae’:
‘Agathiya’, directed by renowned lyricist Pa. Vijay, stars Jiiva, Raashi Khanna, Arjun, and others, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film features a remix of the classic song ‘En Iniya Pon Nilave’ from the movie ‘Moodu Pani’, originally composed by Ilaiyaraaja.
