The Supreme Court has finally drawn the curtain on the 23-year-old death case of actress Prathyusha, whose demise in 2002 shocked the South Indian film industry.
A bench comprising Justices Rajesh Bindal and Manmohan dismissed the plea by Prathyusha’s mother, Sarojini Devi, which alleged murder and rape.
The court ruled out murder by strangulation, stating that overwhelming medical evidence proves the cause of death was poisoning following an apparent suicide pact.
The apex court upheld the conviction of her then-boyfriend, G. Siddhartha Reddy, for abetment of suicide, maintaining his two-year prison sentence.
Reddy has been directed to surrender within four weeks to serve his term, bringing a closure to one of Kollywood’s most protracted legal battles.
For fans and family, this verdict marks the end of an era of speculation, though her mother expressed deep disappointment over the rejection of the murder charges.
