‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has overtaken Vikram’s overall collections. According to trade experts, while Vikram has collected over Rs 410 crore worldwide, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has overtaken the same and is inching towards Rs 450 crore.
It was only recently that the film’s lead star cast had announced that the film had already made Rs 400 crore.
With this feat, the first of the two-part series, will emerge as one of the highest grossers in Tamil cinema.
The film, which is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name, revolves around the battle for the throne after one of the Chola kings Sundara Cholar falls ill.
The film had an ensemble star cast including Prakash Raj, Sarath Kumar, Parthiban, Shobita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayaram, Lal, Rahman to name a few. Music is by AR Rahman.
