In a major victory for the makers of Sivakarthikeyan’s political drama ‘Parasakthi’ , the Madras High Court has refused to grant an interim stay on its digital streaming.
Assistant director Varun Rajendran filed a case alleging that the story was copied from his work titled Semmozhi. The producers, Dawn Pictures, argued that the 1965 anti-Hindi agitations are a well-documented part of Tamil history and cannot be claimed as private copyright.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy noted that while the characters and dialogues are fictional, the historical backdrop belongs to the public domain.
While the next legal hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026, there is currently no legal obstruction for its OTT run.
The film remains available for streaming on ZEE5, where it has already climbed to the #1 trending spot in India.
Sivakarthikeyan addressed the controversy in a recent interview, urging audiences to watch the film in its entirety to understand the message of unity it conveys, rather than focusing on leaked snippets taken out of context.
