Superstar Rajinikanth has officially confirmed that his 1999 blockbuster, ‘Padayappa’ , will receive a sequel, tentatively titled Neelambari: Padayappa 2.
The announcement was made by the actor himself during a special video celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original film and its re-release, which is set for Rajinikanth’s birthday on December 12.
The title suggests a focus on the return of the iconic antagonist Neelambari, famously played by Ramya Krishnan.
Rajinikanth stated, “In the current times, when I see sequels like 2.0 and Jailer 2, I wonder why not Padayappa 2? We are discussing the story, and if it comes out well, there will be a Neelambari. It will be exciting for the audience, and I’m working on it.”
The original film, directed by K.S. Ravikumar, remains one of the most celebrated films in Tamil cinema history.
