Movie Review
Devayani is a Sri Lankan Tamil who comes to India as a refugee after losing her three-year-old child and family in the war. She starts working in an old age home in Chennai.
On the other hand, a couple, Vijith and Kanmani, who work in an IT company, come to the home for their child’s birthday. They are looking for the right person to take care of their child and see Devayani and take her home to work to look after their child.
The couple are trying to settle down in America and soon receive an invitation to go to America.
In the meantime, the child, who grows up in Devayani’s affection, wants to be with her. Devayani is tormented by the thought of being separated from the child.
One day, the child goes missing and a police complaint is filed. Who kidnapped the child? What is their motive, how Devayani is connected to this forms the core plot of the movie.
Director Shiva Arumugam made the movie based on an interesting storyline. Although the storyline is good, the screenplay could have been better. The director should be appreciated for delivering a strong message through the movie at the right time.
Devayani, who has made a comeback on the silver screen after many years, has played a role that highlights her character and has done a great job. Her Sri Lankan Tamil accent is enjoyable. She is easily able to convey even the slightest emotion effectively.
Both Vijith and Kanmani have portrayed the modern-day couple working in an IT company on screen.
The scenes where they compete to take care of the child and order food every day are a reality show of today.
Ahana and Niharika, who play child stars, have given beautiful performances. The chemistry of the children with Devayani is top notch.
Similarly, the characters of Ilavarasu, who plays a police inspector, Raj Kapoor, and Vadivukkarasi, who plays an office MD, are enjoyable.
Gurudev’s cinematography is brilliant and Naren Balakumar’s music has added strength to the film. Rest of the technical aspects are good as well.
