Sending shock waves across south Indian film industry, popular Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja passed away on Sunday. He was just 39. Chiranjeevi was nephew of veteran actor Arjun and husband of actress Meghna Raj.
The actress, who is popular in Kollywood thanks to films such as ‘Kaadhal Solla Vandhen’, ‘Uyarthiru 420’ and ‘Nandha Nandhita’, entered wedlock with Chiranjeevi only in 2018. It was a love marriage with the blessings of elders in both families.
According to sources, Chiranjeevi suddenly complained of chest pain and breathlessness. Following this, he was rushed to hospital. However, he failed to respond to the treatment and passed away. His throat swab sample has been sent for Covid-19 testing.
Chiranjeevi, who started his career in 2009 with ‘Vayupatra’, has acted in 22 Kannada films, including ‘Shivarjuna’, which was released weeks before the Covid-19 induced lockdown. He was part of four upcoming movies, sources said and added that he was planning to make his debut in Kollywood as well.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, politicians and popular film personalities have mourned Sarja’s death and expressed condolences to his bereaved family.
