In a candid revelation, director Lokesh Kanagaraj addressed the polarising reception of his latest Rajinikanth-starrer, Coolie.
Despite facing significant “flop talk” and mixed reviews upon its release, the filmmaker confirmed that the movie has officially crossed the Rs 500 crore milestone at the global box office.
Speaking at a recent event, Lokesh acknowledged the heavy criticism regarding the film’s execution. “I cannot criticize audience expectations,” he stated, noting that many fans were disappointed that the film wasn’t part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) or a time-travel story.
The film features an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan, with a special cameo by Aamir Khan that drew major crowds.
Lokesh credited the film’s commercial stamina to Rajinikanth’s massive screen presence, which he believes overshadowed the script’s flaws. He concluded by promising to “rectify” his writing approach in his next project, ensuring a tighter narrative for his upcoming LCU installments.
