Kollywood looks forward for 2021 with big hopes – F’day Spl. article by Naveen

With very minimal movies releasing in 2020, it can be called as one of the most difficult years of Kollywood. However, the upcoming year 2021 looks promising and youthful as most of the movies that are set to be released in the new year are directed by new generation directors. Most of the big stars have associated themselves with budding directors which is a promising sign for the Tamil film industry.

Rajinikanth has been superstar for more than three decades mostly because of his ability to adapt for the changes of the next generation audience. It is once again time for this transition which was evident when he acted in ‘Petta’ directed by Karthik Subburaj. Now once again Rajini has posed his trust on Siva who is directing the actor’s upcoming flick ‘Annathae’. This is one of the most awaited flicks and even title poster had created a huge buzz.

Kamal Hassan
Kamal Hassan is known for experimenting and trying out new things in film. But most of Kamal Haasan’s movies, at least in the recent times, were directed by veteram filmmakers.
Now he has moved on to the younger lot of the directors and the announcement of his next movie ‘Vikram’ to be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj surprised everyone. The title teaser which was released recently was much talked about.

Actor Vijay, one of the most bankable heroes of this generation, has Master all set to be released for Pongal. The movie is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj (34) who caught everyone’s attention in his previous movies ‘Kaidhi’ and ‘Maanagaram’. For his next flick Vijay has now joined hands with Nelson Dilipkumar(36) of ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ fame.

Ajith, who is a darling among the masses, has recently shifted his attention to young directors. Most of his recent films were directed by Siva (43). Later he joined hands with H Vinoth (39) for ‘Nerkonda Paarvari’. He is also directing the actor’s upcoming flick ‘Valimai’.

Vikram is one of the most hardworking actors in Kollywood who gives life to whatever character he plays. Now the actor has teamed up with filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu (32) for his upcoming flick ‘Cobra’. Ajay Gnanamuthu has made movies by ‘Demonte Colony’ and ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ which caught the attention of the audience.

Dhanush is a beast when it comes to acting and the young age directors are sure to extract more out of the actor. He has a completed a couple of movies including Karthik Subburaraj’s (37) ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ and Maari Selvaraj’s (36) ‘Karnan’. Both these directors have established themselves in the first few movies that they had made. They have created their own pattern.

Actor Karthi who has made a name for himself by being very choosy about his scripts has never shyed away from bring part of movies that are made by young directors. His last two hits ‘heeran Adhigaram Ondru’ and ‘Kaidhi’ were directed by fairly young directors. At present he is part of ‘Sultan’ directed by Bakkiyaraj Kannan.

Arya is part of Shakthi Soundrarajan’s ‘Teddy’, an experimental film new for Tamil cinema. Shakthi had previously directed movies like ‘Miruthan’ and ‘Tik Tik Tik’ which were also new attempts for K-town. Apart from this he is also part of ‘Sarpetta Parambarai’ directed by Pa Ranjith, known for the political messages in his movies.
