Kollywood directors seem to have got a likening towards swords (Kaththi) in the recent past as most of the first look posters that were released had the weapon featuring in them.
Let us take a look at some of the prominent movies with sword in the first look poster.
‘Maharaja’:
Director Nithilan is directing actor Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th film ‘Maharaja’. The first look poster of the film was released in Chennai. The poster shows Vijay Sehtupathi in a blood-soaked shirt and pants, sitting in police station with a sickle in his hand. His left ears seems to have been chopped off too.
‘Jailer’:
The first look poster of Superstar Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’ was released by Sun Pictures featured a bloodstained sword hanging from the ceiling. Directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar, the movie went on to shatter several records. Ramya Krishnan, Tamannah, Shiva Rajkumar, Mohanlal, Sunil were all part of the cast. Music for the movie was by Anirudh.
‘Leo’:
Director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Vijay have teamed up for ‘Leo’ which is one of the most anticipated movies in Kollywood. Lokesh announced the Vijay’s film title with a promo video on Twitter. Vijay si shown working at what looks like a chocolate manufacturing unit. He can be seen handpicking coffee beans and juxtaposes his other side where we see him forging a sword from scratch and getting ready to face the imminent threat. Towards the end of the video, as he draws the sword out, he dips it in the freshly made chocolate ganache. As he wields the sword, the title Leo appears on the screen. Vijay says ‘bloody sweet’ as the video ends. Music for the movie is by Anirudh. The film is slated to be released on 19 October.
‘Karnan’:
Dhanush collaborated with ‘Pariyerum Perumal’-fame Mari Selvaraj for the second time with ‘Karnan’. The first poster of the film which was unveiled by the makers shows a pile of hands clasping each other and lifting a sword up in the air, with livestock and trees in the background. Produced by V Creations, ‘Karnan’ featured Malayalam actor Rajisha Vijayan as the female lead and marked her Tamil debut. The film also had Natrajan Subramaniam, Lal, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, and Gouri Kishen in important roles.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’:
The first look poster of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ featured a golden sword with lion emblems in the quillon block and a shield with a roaring lion in the middle while the fire cuts through the shield. Directed by Mani Ratnam ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ follows the story of Arulmozhi Varman and the Chola dynasty. The film boasts of an ensemble cast including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Chiyaan Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Ashwin Kakumanu in prominent roles. Ponniyin Selvan has music composed by AR Rahman.
‘Maamannan’:
The first look of director Mari Selvaraj’s ‘Maamannan’, featuring actors Udhayanidhi Stalin, Fahadh Faasil, Vadivelu and Keerthy Suresh in the lead grabbed the attention of the fans during the time of its release. The poster shows both Udhay and Vadivelu sitting next to each other. The legendary comedian is dressed in a traditional attire and has a gun in his hand, while, Udhay dons a modern look with a machete in his hand. The film has music by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, cinematography by Theni Eswar and cuts are handled by Selva RK.
