Two new Kollywood movies have announced that they will have Genie as one of the main characters in the movie. Kollywood is not new to this genre of movies.
Let us take a look at some of the movies in Tamil cinema which has genie in a prominent role
Alamabana:
Directed by debutant Pari K Vijay, the film has Vaibhav, Parvati and Munishkanth in the lead roles. Vaibhav plays a boy-next-door character, and Parvati plays his love interest. Munishkanth is the genie in the movie. The film also stars Kaali Venkat, Anand Raj, Murali Sharma, Kabir Duhan Singh and Dindugal Leoni in important roles. Shooting of the flick is expected to go on floors by the end of this year.
My Dear Bhootham:
Produced by Abhishek Films and Ramesh Pillai, the film features Prabhudheva as a genie. film directed by N Raghavan, who earlier made Manja Pai. Ramya Nambeesan plays the female lead. What happens when a bunch of kids meet a genie forms the story of this film. The makers have completed the shoot and My Dear Bootham is in the post-production stage. The film is scheduled to release in the first quarter of 2022.
Allauddinum Arphutha Vilakkum:
When we talk about genie based movies in Kollywood, Allauddinum Arphutha Vilakkum cannot be missed. Directed by I V Sasi based on Aladdin’s story from One Thousand and One Nights. The film stars Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Jayabharathi, Sripriya, Gemini Ganesan, Savitri and S. A. Ashokan.
Pattanathil Bhootham:
Directed and co-edited by M. V. Raman, and written by Javar Seetharaman. An adaptation of the American film The Brass Bottle, it stars Jaishankar and K R Vijaya, with Nagesh, Balaji, Manohar and V K Ramasamy in lead roles. A suspicious urn lands in the possession of friends Bhaskar and Seenu. Believing the urn contains fruits, Seenu and Bhaskar open it, unwittingly releasing a genie named Jee-Boom-Ba who was trapped in it for 3000 years.
Sathan Sollai Thattathe :
Murthy (Pandiyan), Gopinath (Janagaraj) and Sekar (Chandrasekhar) are three friends who live together and share a close bond with each other. Even though they are highly qualified, they find it difficult to get a job and spend most of their days in poverty. They accidentally break a violin which they had got from an auction releasing a genie, played by Senthil. The movie is directed by Rama Narayanan and received positive reviews during the time of its release.
