Hit and miss
Desingu Raja 2
– Review
The film’s plot revolves around three childhood friends from an agricultural college who, over time, diverge onto wildly different paths: one becomes a top police officer, another a diligent inspector, and the third, unexpectedly, a notorious rowdy.
Their inevitable reunion sets off a chain of events involving a missing severed head and a minister’s blackmail video, leading to a series of chaotic confrontations where loyalties and professions clash.
Directed by Ezhil, the film heavily relies on its comedic cast. Ezhil’s direction, known for its light-hearted rural comedies, seems to have struggled with the script.
The screenplay is the film’s Achilles’ heel, lacking coherence and consistency. The narrative jumps from one random comedic setup to another, often feeling disconnected and forced.
Vemal, in the lead, has as usual delivered a neat performance. However, it is questionable whether his potential was fully utilised.
Pugazh and Ravi Mariya manage to elicit a few sporadic laughs. The exaggerated performances, a hallmark of Ezhil’s style is somewhat missing in this flick.
The technical elements, including Vidyasagar’s music and R. Selva’s cinematography, are functional.
