At least three persons, including an assistant director, died and 10 others were injured late on Wednesday night when a crane collapsed on the sets of Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Indian 2’ at a studio on the outskirts of Chennai.
The incident took place on Wednesday night at the EVP Film City near Poonamallee. Krishna, an assistant director, and production assistants Madhu and Chandran died after a crane that was in use during the shoot collapsed.
Kamal Haasan, who visited the hospital where the injured are getting treatment, tweeted: “I have faced and overcome many accidents, but today’s is the most horrific one. I lost three colleagues. The distress of their family members will be many times greater than my own pain. I share their grief as one of them. My deepest condolences to them.”
Though initial reports said that Shankar also fractured a leg, but the rumours were later refused. According to sources, the accident happened when a light set-up on top of a crane fell on the crew who were at the spot. The rope that was used to hold up the set-up gave way.
Nazarathpet police have filed a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. Kamal Haasan, Kajal Agarwal, Rakul Preet, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Delhi Ganesh and Nedumudi Venu play prominent roles in ‘Indian 2’.
