Actor and director Prathap Pothen passed away in Chennai. He was found dead at his flat in Chennai.
Pothen was also credited as a film producer, director and screenwriter. He directed around 12 films.
Pothen was born on August 13, 1952. He completed his education at Lawrence School, Lovedale in Ooty and Madras Christian College.
The actor married Radhika in 1986, however, they separated in 1986.
He later married Amala Sathyanath in 1990 and they have a daughter. In 2012, Pothen and Sathyanath separated .
Throughout his career, Pothen shared the screen with many notable actors in southern cinema.
Fans and members of the film fraternity have been offering their condolences to his family.
Sharing a BTS still from ‘Vetri Vizha’, Kamal Haasan posted, “Friend Pratap Pothen continued his avid literary reading and unquenchable interest in art films. I have seen during the ‘Vetrivizha’ period that he is also an expert in successfully directing lively films. Tribute to him.”
Gautami, posted, “I’m deeply saddened at the passing of Shri Prathap Pothen. He was a dynamic & mercurial creator – actor, director, producer. Unforgettable working with #prathappothen in Chaitanya. My heart goes out to his daughter & loved ones. May his soul RIP.”
Sathyaraj, who has acted in two films, ‘Jeeva’ and ‘Magudam’ shared a video message offering his condolences to Pratap Pothen’s family.
Prithviraj Sukumaran took to his Twitter account to share an image of the actor. “Rest in Peace, uncle. I will miss you,” tweeted the actor.
