Lyricist Vairamuthu is no more part of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and the reason behind his forced exit is said to be the sexual charges he had faced under #MeToo movement.
When asked about it, Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman, who is scoring music for the movie, said, “I can’t disclose anything. You will soon get to know who is working in the film. Only Mani Ratnam’s office should talk about it.”
It was earlier said that Vairamuthu would pen lyrics for the movie. However, latest updates have it that Mani has decided to not include the lyricist in the film’s team since he faced serious sexual charges.
Recently, there were protests in social media against Vairamuthu working in ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. Also, fans slammed Mani Ratnam and others for rubbing shoulders with Vairamuthu at the Raj Kamal Film International’s new office building inaugural function.
“Sorry….big Rahman fan but this does not do well. I really hope ARR steps down from this project. @Chinmayi has been fighting so hard and this is the time people of his stature need to take sides,” a tweet said.
According to another Twitter user, “@arrahman and mani ratnam shouldn’t have included vairamuthu. There are other lyricists of almost equal talent like thamarai or umadevi or even madan karky.”
Said a post: “How can a molester like Vairamuthu be used in such a prestigeous project . I will watch this only in pirated portals. Not planning to spend my money on this shit.”
