DMK MLA J Anbazhagan died of Covid-19 on his 62nd birthday today while undergoing treatment in a private hospital at Chromepete in Chennai.
He admitted to Dr Rela Institute and Medical Centre at Chromepet on June 2. “His condition deteriorated rapidly on Tuesday night. We could not bring him back,” said a senior doctor.
Anbazhagan was taken to the hospital with severe acute respiratory distress. Although he initially managed with oxygen therapy using a face-mask, he was put on ventilator support as his respiratory distress worsened and his condition remained unchanged.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, DMK president M K Stalin have condoled Anbazhagan’s death. Hailing from a traditional DMK family, Anbazhagan’s father Jayaraman was also a DMK worker.
