Sacred but sacrificed
Vellai Yaanai
– Review
Farmers from a village near Thanjavur get loan from banks to do farming. However, due to the lack of rainfall it becomes difficult to do agriculture following which the farmers are not able to repay their debt.
The men in the village decide to leave for some other place to do some work to repay the debt. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
The story taken up by director Subramaniam Siva is not something new. However he has presented it differently which keeps the audience engaged.
The screenplay is linear without much twists and turns. The movie has some powerful hard-hitting dialogues.
Samuthirakani is tailor made for the role. However, unlike most of his previous movies he does not mouth revolutionary dialogues. He has delivered yet another intense performance.
Athmiya has done her part well. Yogi Babu gets a good character role as well. Camerawork by Vishnu Rangasamy is very natural. Songs and BGM by Santhosh Narayanan create the apt mood for the movie.
