A sentimental love drama

“Saara”

– Review

The story revolves around Sara (Sakshi Agarwal), an employee at a construction company.
Her life is complicated by two key relationships: her six-year engagement with her colleague and lover, Mahesh (Vijay Vishwa), and her deep, yet complex, bond with Chella (Chellakutty), a laborer in the same company.
The core conflict is established early: Sara and Mahesh face obstacles and misunderstandings that threaten their wedding plans.
The narrative takes a turn in the second half with the introduction of Chella’s background. It is revealed that Chella and Sara share a significant childhood connection, and Chella even sacrificed his education for her.
After an accident, Chella’s single mother, Chellamal (Ambika), meets Sara and wishes for her to become her daughter-in-law, setting up an emotional dilemma for Sara: choose her long-time fiancé or acknowledge the depth of Chella’s sacrifice and friendship.
The film ultimately hinges on this central romantic and emotional choice, tied together with elements of crime and thriller as indicated in the synopsis.
Director and writer Chellakutty makes a bold choice with a non-linear narrative structure, which attempts to add intrigue and keep the audience engaged.
This creativity is laudable, but the execution is mixed. The emotional drama, centered on Sara and Chella/Mahesh, often clashes with the forced comedy track.
Sakshi Agarwal carries the film with her performance as Sara. She brings an elegant and graceful presence to the screen, providing clarity and balance to her pivotal character.
Her subtle expressions help navigate the emotional complexity of Sara’s dilemma, making her a notable strength of the film.
Chella’s character, portrayed by the director himself, is realized with intense energy and a distinctive style, utilizing powerful dialogues and body language.
The supporting cast provides diverse and committed performances. Ambika, as Chellamal (Chella’s mother), delivers a standout, heartfelt, and grounded portrayal.
Vijay Vishwa, as Mahesh, delivers a dependable performance in the role of the fiancé. The comedic trio of Yogi Babu (as Babu), Robo Shankar (as Security Raju), and Thangadurai (as Durai) provides lighter moments, contributing to the lively workplace atmosphere.
The visuals, handled by Laxman J., are competent and supportive of the story, lending clarity to the narrative progression.
Karthick Raja’s musical contribution is highly effective in enhancing the emotional tone, particularly a mother-sentiment song that resonates deeply with the audience. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are good as well.
