Pattas
– Review
Dhanush and director Durai Senthilkumar, who gave us ‘Kodi’ some years ago, have joined hands for ‘Pattas’, which glorifies a forgotten martial arts Adimurai, like how ‘Indian’ threw light on Varmakalai and ‘7aum Arivu’ on Bodhi Dharman.
Though the intentions are good and performances by Dhanush and Sneha are terrific, a predictable screenplay hits the movie hard, making it one among the many routine commercial potboilers.
Sakthi aka Pattas (Dhanush) is a small time thief and a happy go lucky youngster. He falls for Sadhana (Mehreen Pirzada), a chirpy girl in the neighbourhood.
She makes him steal from a martial arts academy run by Nilan (Naveen Chandra). Meanwhile, Sakthi meets his mother Kanyakumari (Sneha), who was in jail for almost two decades.
From her, he comes to know that his father is Thiraviyam Perumal (Dhanush again), who is an expert in Adimurai, an ancient martial art practised by Tamils.
He dies after he was cheated by Nilan. Now Kanyakumari wants Sakthi to avenge the death of his father and to restore the lost glory of Adimurai.
Dhanush is superb in both the roles, with Thiraviyam Perumal slightly overtaking Pattas. Sneha comes up with an excellent performance and does stunts too. Nasser is good, while Naveen Chandra and Mehreen Pirzada are routine.
Vivek-Mervin’s musical score saves the film big time. Durai Senthilkumar has attempted to deliver a commercial cocktail, which entertains us in parts despite being cliched and predictable.
Pattas (crackers) are normally meant for Deepavali. But, Dhanush has delivered it for Pongal
