A vision of love and fate

“Kiss”

– Review

The movie revolves around Nelson (Kavin), a young man who develops a peculiar supernatural ability after a significant event: whenever he witnesses a couple share a kiss, he gets a fleeting vision of their future, including their romantic fate.
This power complicates his life, especially when he falls for Sarah (Preethi Asrani).
The core conflict emerges when his vision for their relationship is a shocking and tragic one, compelling him to fight against fate to save their love.
The narrative is a refreshing departure from conventional romantic comedies, utilizing its fantasy element to drive the plot and explore themes of destiny versus free will.
Sathish Krishnan’s directorial debut is confident and stylish. He handles the fantasy elements with a light touch, keeping the tone largely grounded in a youthful, modern setting.
The first half is particularly strong, propelled by a brisk pace and genuinely funny moments. However, the film loses some of its unique charm in the second half, which leans into more predictable romantic drama tropes.
While the emotional core is present, the narrative arc becomes less surprising, which is a missed opportunity given the innovative premise.
Kavin delivers a standout performance as Nelson. He effortlessly balances the character’s comedic and emotional sides, proving his growth as an actor. His portrayal of a man grappling with a bizarre power while navigating love is both charming and relatable.
Preethi Asrani is vibrant and complements Kavin perfectly, with their on-screen chemistry being a key highlight.
The supporting cast, including VTV Ganesh and RJ Vijay, are fantastic in their roles, providing much of the film’s consistent humor.
Veteran actor Prabhu’s pivotal role and a powerful voice-over by Vijay Sethupathi also add significant value to the film.
The movie is a visual treat. Cinematographer Harish Kannan’s work is excellent, crafting a glossy, colourful, and polished look that elevates the youthful spirit of the film.
Jen Martin’s music and background score are a major asset, with the songs being both catchy and well-integrated into the narrative.
Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are good as well.
