From an auto driver to a television actor to a cinema star known for versatile roles, Bose Venkat has come a long way. And, ‘Kanni Maadam’ brings out his yet another talent- direction.
As director, Bose Venkat has succeeded in his maiden movie itself. Besides engaging and entertaining the audience, he has conveyed a strong message too to the society, but withoug going preachy.
Featuring newcomers Sreeram Karthik and Gayathri, ‘Kanni Maadam’ is a romantic film set in Chennai. The film also stars Aadukulam Murugadoss, Gajaraj and Supergood Subramani.
It talks about casteism and honour killing. It also talks about romance and the power of women. Bose Venkat has succeeded in characterisation and narration.
Gayathri has acted really well, while the likes of Sreeram, Murugadoss, Gajaraj and Subramani have done justice. Even small characters are portrayed well.
Music director Hari Sai, who has previously composed for films in Kannada, has made his Tamil debut in ‘Kanni Maadam’, which also features a kuthu song for which Robo Shankar has lent his voice. The first half could have been better, while the second half is riveting.
In an interview earlier, Bose Venkat had said, “It’s common that youngsters and others who come to Chennai with aspirations and dreams reside in areas like Mettu Kuppam, Vijayaraghava Puram and Choolaimedu. So, we have shot the entire film across these places for the ‘nativity’ factors.” The film has lived true to this statement. It is a straight forward story that touches our heart.
