Brutal and hard-hitting
Kaaval Thurai Ungal Nanban
‘Kaaval Thurai Ungal Nanban’ is a hard hitting story of how those in power misuse, or abuse, it to ruin the lives of those who cross them the wrong way.
Prabhu (Suresh Ravi), who dreams of going abroad does odd jobs to earn some money. His newly married wife, Indu (Raveena Ravi), also goes for work to run the family and fulfil her husband’s dream.
They live alone as they had entered wedlock against the wishes of their family. When everything seems to go right, things go haywire one day when the couple is forced to go to a police station after Indu is robbed off her money and molested.
Things get heated up at the station as Prbahu gets on the wrong foot with inspector Kannabiran (Mime Gopi). Kannabiran decides to spoil the couple’s life and what happens next forms the rest.
Though the movie was made by director RDM long ago, it somehow often reminds us of the Sathankulam custodial deaths. Suresh Ravi looks earnest and does a neat job.
The film must have been physically demanding for him and he has given his best. Raveena Ravi has done a decent job of her character. Mime Gopi is so impactful that you would think twice before going to a police station or confronting a policeman.
The climax is hard-hitting and is a reflection of reality. The film is good with with satisfying performances, good production value, excellent directorial skills. Music by Adhithyaa, Soorya is noteworthy.
Cinematography by K S Vishnushri is another high point. Editing by Vadivel and Vimalraj adds value. On the flipside, there could have been certain positive elements in the movie.
