“Dragon”

– Movie Review

Pradeep Ranganathan, an archetypal ‘good boy’, is a gold medallist in school. He confesses his love to a girl after he gets awarded the gold medal.
However, she rejects him, stating that she sometimes prefers ‘bad boys’, who are unruly and roam around the school with swag.
Cut to his college days, Pradeep becomes Dragon because of the rejection and has 48 standing arrears. What he earned in college was the love of Anupama Parameswaran.
Six years after their relationship, Anupama realises that Pradeep is a failure. She breaks up with him, stating that she received a marriage proposal from a smart and successful guy who earns over Rs 1 lakh a month.
This breakup transforms Pradeep’s life. Initially consumed by hatred for Anupama, it also leads him down dangerous paths.
Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, the first half is a bit rocky but it all comes together in the second half, which packs in more twists and turns.
It is in the second half that director Ashwath Marimuthu’s brilliance truly shows. The film avoids the clichéd ending where the hero wins despite all his mistakes.
Pradeep Ranganathan proves that he is here to stay with a phenomenal effort that is showing that he is getting better and better as an actor.
The film is filled with good performances – Kayadu Lohar makes a great debut and is very pretty while Anupama gets one of her best roles after ‘Premam’.
The film also strikes with sublime performances from Mysskin, George Maryam and GVM. VJ Siddhu and Harshath Khan, Ragavan’s friends, get meaty roles in ‘Dragon’.
Leon James’ music is a big plus as well, with superb songs and BGM that properly complements the film. Niketh Bommireddy’s colourful cinematography improves the quality of the movie.
