S J Surya’s show all the way

Bommai

– Review

SJ Surya, who works at a mannequin factory, is under treatment for long term mental illness. He decides to stop his medication and soon finds that one of the mannequin’s that he is painting comes to life as his long lost childhood sweetheart Priya Bhavani Shankar.
He finds great happiness in interacting with the mannequin but soon loses her due to his manager selling it off to a store in spite of his request. In his quest for his missing sweetheart the manager gets killed and the police are after the obvious murderer.
Meanwhile Suryah finds the mannequin at a high profile store and since his old neighbour Chandini Tamilarasan works there conveniently for him he gets a job. What happens next forms the rest of the story. Director Radha Mohan has steered away from his usual feel-good family dramas and has delivered a movie about a hero with a psychological condition.
However, ther storyline does not seem to be organic. SJ suryah aces the character of a romantic person who suffers from trauma. His sudden change in expressions and hysteric reactions are a treat to watch. It is his screen presence which shoulders the screenplay.
Priya Bhavani Shankar is perfect as the mannequin that comes to life and she is especially effective when she turns dark and forces the hero to do some terrible things. Chandini Tamilarasan could have been utilised better. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is impressive and suits well with the theme of the movie. Rest of the technical aspects are okay.
