On the road to redemption

“Accused”

– Review

The story revolves around Udhaya, who stands accused of assassinating a powerful MLA, and Constable Ajmal, tasked with the high-stakes mission of escorting him to court.
As their journey unfolds, the film attempts to move beyond a simple prisoner-escort dynamic, aiming to delve into deeper themes of justice, truth, and personal redemption.

The gritty, realistic, and well-shot bus action sequence is one of the highlights of the movie. This moment injects a much-needed burst of adrenaline into the narrative and showcases director Prabhu Srinivas’s ability to handle tension with precision.

The raw texture of the highways and rural detours forming the backdrop also adds to the storytelling’s authenticity. The screenplay is racy keeping the audience engaged and guessing.

The performances by the lead actors are earnest, with Udhaya’s stoicism providing a good contrast to Ajmal’s internal conflicts.

While the film doesn’t always delve deeply into their emotional backstories, the evolving chemistry between the two characters is believable and forms a crucial part of the film’s appeal.

One of the most praised technical aspects of the movie is its cinematography by Maruthanayagam.I.

The film largely unfolds on the open road, and the visuals effectively capture the ruggedness and vastness of the highways and the rural landscapes they traverse.
The musical score by Naren Balakumar is a vital component in the movie and keeps the scenes engaging with his pulsating background. Rest of the technical aspects of the movie are good as well.
