Sequels seem to be the flavour of Tamil cinema. Just into February, we had already seen ‘Nadodigal 2’ hitting the screens. It was just a beginning, so to speak, for a string of sequels are in the making.
This week, as part of its Friday special articles series, Mykollywood.com tracks sequels that are likely to hit the screens this year, that is, 2020.
INDIAN 2
‘Indian 2’ is a vigilante action thriller film directed by S Shankar. A sequel to the 1996 film ‘Indian’, the film is being produced by Subaskaran Allirajah‘s Lyca Productions.
The film stars Kamal Haasan and Kajal Aggarwal as lead artistes and the movie also stars Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh and Priya Bhavani Shankar.
The film features music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, collaborating for the first time with Kamal Haasan and Shankar. Cinematography and editing are handled by R Rathnavelu and A Sreekar Prasad respectively.
KGF: CHAPTER 2
‘KGF: Chapter 2’ is a period action film directed by Prashanth Neel. The film is a sequel to ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ which was released in 2018 and stars Yash in the lead reprising his role from the first film and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt as the antagonist.
Principal photography began in March 2019 and the film is expected to be released in July 2020 in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu languages.
In July 2019, Sanjay Dutt confirmed speculations surrounding his appearance in the film. The crew released the film’s first poster on Dutt’s 60th birthday on 29 July.
On signing Dutt, Yash remarked, “Sanjay Dutt is a wonderful actor, and when elements like his physical appearance, image, legacy and, on top of it, the kind of role that ‘KGF Chapter 2’ has etched for him come together, it only adds value.”
INDRU NETRU NAALAI 2
‘Indru Netru Naalai 2’ is a sci-fi movie directed by SP Karthik and penned by R Ravikumar. The movie is a sequel to Indru Netru Naalai (2015) written by Ravikumar.
The second part has Vishnu Vishal and Karunakaran in the lead roles. While the music for the film will be composed by Ghibran and the cinematography will be handled by Dinesh Krishnan, rest of the cast and crew is expected to be announced soon.
Producer CV Kumar recently announced that a perfect sequel has been penned by director Ravikumar, who has directed the first part in 2015. The sequel will be directed by Ravikumar’s associate Karthik.
RAJATHANDHIRAM 2
Directed and produced by Senthil Veeraasamy, the film stars Veera, Darbuka Siva and Ajai Prasath. It is a sequel to ‘Rajathandhiram’, a 2015 heist film written and directed by debutant A G Amid and jointly produced by Sunland Cinemas and White Bucket Productions.
Fox Star Studios acquired the distribution rights of the film. The film features Veera Bahu and Regina Cassandra in the lead roles. Sandeep Chowta composed the film score while G V Prakash Kumar had composed a promo song, cinematography handled by S R Kathir, film edited by Praveen Antony, production designed by Videsh and action sequences designed and choreographed by Stunt Silva.
On 13 March 2016, the team announced the launch of its sequel ‘Rajathandhiram 2’ with a first six-minute video clip on YouTube. The film was remade in Kannada as ‘Panta’ .
