In view of coronavirus outbreak, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered closure of malls and movie theatres in the state’s border Taluks till March 31. Primary schools have also been asked to remain closed.
In a statement, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said malls and movie theatres in border Taluks in Theni, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Krishnagiri, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Erode, Dindigul, Dharmapuri and Virudhunagar districts to remain shut till March 31.
He appealed to people to avoid travelling to neighbouring states, where several people have tested positive for the virus. “All kindergarten classes and classes from 1st standard to 5th standard will be closed across the state till March 31,” he said.
Places of mass gathering in other parts of the State like places of worship, theatres and commercial complexes are ordered to be sanitised immediately. With the government’s direction to order closure of theatres, release of films in the coming weeks remains to be a question.
