There was a buzz recently that despite getting a good role in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, Amala Paul turned it down for some ‘unaovidable reasons’.

Now, the actress herself has come out with an explanation. She said, “If I fail to put up a convincing performance that would attract unwanted criticism. So I decided not to take it up. But I am hopeful that I will be able to act in a Mani Ratnam movie sooner or later.”

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Lal, Rahman, and Kishore among others play key roles in ‘Ponniyin Selvan’, bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The film has musical score by Oscar-Grammy winner A R Rahman.

The film is based on a legendary Tamil novel written by Kalki. According to sources, Trisha’s role in the film is Kunthavai, the bold and daring Chola princess and she would play the elder sister to Jayam Ravi and the love interest of Karthi. Sources inform that the ace director is planning to complete the entire shoot of the film this year.

Ravi Varman is cranking the camera for the film, while Jeyamohan has penned the dialogues. Ilango Kumaravel has done the additional screenplay along with Mani Ratnam. Thotta Tharani and Wasiq Khan are the production designers. After ‘Iruvar’, ‘Guru’ and ‘Raavanan’, Mani Ratnam has once again roped in Aishwarya Rai for ‘Ponniyin Selvan’.
