Urging the government to consider a rollback of the proposed TDS to be levied on its members’ income from April, the Tamil Film Distributors’ Association has said that it will not release films from March 27, if the demand is not considered.
The above decision was conveyed to the media at a press meet in Chennai, attended by the heads of the several district distribution associations, including T Rajhendherr (Chennai, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram), Mannan, Rajamannar (Coimbatore), Prathap Raja (Tirunelveli), and Shahul Hameed (Madurai).
Speaking to reporters, TR said, “We are expected to pay 10% TDS for turnover, based on the theatrical run of a film, which might not always mean that the film has given us any profit. This is extremely unfair.”
He said that distributors are an important bridge between producers and theatre owners, and added that their appeals had to be considered to ensure that the industry functions smoothly.
He also requested the Tamil Nadu government to repeal the 8% Local Body Entertainment Tax (LBET) that is being levied on top of the 12% GST levied on tickets.

தமிழ் திரைப்பட விநியோஸ்தர்கள் சங்க கூட்டமைப்பின் அறிக்கை
இன்று (10.03.2020) தமிழ் திரைப்பட விநியோஸ்தர்கள் சங்கக்குழுவிப் கூட்டமைப்பின் பத்திரிக்கையாளர் சந்திப்பு நடைபெற்றது.
நிறைவேற்றப்பட்ட புதிய தீர்மானங்கள் குறித்து இந்த சந்திப்பில் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
1. விநியோகஸ்தர்கள் படங்களை விநியோகித்து அதன் மூலம் வரும் வருவாய்க்கு விதிக்கப்படும் 10% TDS வரியை முற்றிலுமாக ரத்து செய்யவேண்டும் என்றும், இதற்கு மத்திய அரசு ஒத்துழைக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் கோரிக்கை வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மேலும் இந்த கோரிக்கையை வலியுறுத்தும் விதமாக, வரும் மார்ச் மாதம் 27ம் தேதி முதல் எந்த விநியோகஸ்தரும் படங்களை விநியோகிப்பதில்லை என்று ஒரு மனதாக முடிவேடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த முடிவு விநியோகஸ்தர்களுக்கு விதிக்கப்படும் TDS வரியை நீக்கும் வரை நடைமுறையில் இருக்கும்.
2. தற்போது திரையரங்க நுழைவுக் கட்டணங்களுக்கான GST (12%) வரியுடன் கூடுதலாக உள்ளாட்சி அமைப்புகளுக்கு LBT (8%) கேளிக்கை வரி செலுத்துவதால் இது திரையரங்குகளுக்கு வரும் பார்வையாளர்களுக்கும் கூடுதல் சுமையாக அமைகிறது. ஆகையால் மேற்படி வரியினை (8%) முற்றிலும் ரத்து செய்ய தமிழக அரசுக்கு கோரிக்கை வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
