A light-hearted celebrity quiz on ‘Koffee with Karan’ has become a talking point online after Vijay Deverakonda jokingly claimed a title associated with Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.
During the episode, host Karan Johar asked Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna to identify popular stars from South Indian cinema based on their widely recognised titles. Rashmika correctly matched Allu Arjun with ‘Icon Star’ and Yash with ‘Rocking Star’.
The exchange took an unexpected turn when Karan asked them to identify the actor popularly known as the ‘Complete Actor’. Vijay responded with “Me!”, apparently in jest, prompting Karan to clarify that the title is associated with Mohanlal.
Both Vijay and Rashmika then appeared surprised, responding by repeating Mohanlal’s name. The moment subsequently circulated on social media, where some viewers questioned whether the actors were familiar with the veteran Malayalam star’s celebrated title.
The reaction has also drawn attention to the sensitivity surrounding Mohanlal’s screen presence and appearances in films featuring other leading actors.
Recently, some of his fans expressed disappointment over the length of his cameo in ‘Jailer 2’, which also stars Rajinikanth. Others criticised the omission of a moment featuring Mohanlal from the film’s trailer and questioned the creative decisions behind his role.
Similar reactions followed reports concerning Mohanlal’s character in director Mahesh Narayanan’s ‘Patriot’, which also features Mammootty. Some fans objected to the character’s abrupt ending in the film.
Mohanlal, however, has previously indicated that he remains open to cameo appearances alongside other leading stars, depending on his schedule. During the release period of ‘L2: Empuraan’, he reportedly emphasised that he ultimately sees himself as an actor and considers such roles part of his profession.
The latest exchange involving Vijay and Rashmika has therefore become another subject of discussion among fans, although the interaction took place in the context of a celebrity quiz.
