Sandhya Raju’s ‘Ekasekalu’ takes a humorous dig at hero worship in cinema

Streaming on ETV Win, the 50-minute film ‘Ekasekalu’ uses satire to poke fun at the conventions of commercial cinema and the culture surrounding larger-than-life film stars.

One of the film’s early scenes features a producer waiting outside a superstar’s vanity van, only to be informed that the actor will make an appearance only after receiving a suitably grand introduction. Crew members then scramble to deliver exaggerated lines praising the star, leading to the dramatic entrance of an ageing actor known as the “Blasting Star.”

Prudhvi Raj plays the veteran actor, while Hriday Ranjan appears as the director witnessing the over-the-top spectacle unfold.

The film is written by Raj Kumar Kusuma and directed by Kuchipudi dancer Sandhya Raju. She previously produced and acted in ‘Natyam’ (2021), a film that won National Film Awards for Best Choreography and Best Make-up.
