Ravi Teja was the original choice for ‘Sir’, reveals Venky Atluri
In a surprising revelation, director Venky Atluri shared that before Dhanush came on board for the bilingual hit ‘Sir’ (‘Vaathi’ in Tamil), the first choice for the lead role was none other than Ravi Teja.
Speaking about the film’s development, Atluri explained that the story was originally conceived with a Telugu sensibility, focusing on a middle-aged man fighting for educational reform.
However, scheduling conflicts led to the project’s delay, and the team later decided to mount it as a bilingual feature, with Dhanush stepping in to make his Telugu debut.
The decision turned out to be fortuitous — ‘Sir’ became both a critical and commercial success, resonating strongly across languages.
Atluri expressed admiration for Ravi Teja’s support, stating that the actor graciously encouraged the new casting choice.
