Akshara Haasan says family support helped her handle comparisons with sister Shruti

Akshara Haasan has spoken about growing up and building a career within one of India’s best-known film families, saying that strong support at home helped her and her sister Shruti Haasan deal with comparisons.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Akshara acknowledged that people outside the family have sometimes compared the two sisters. However, she said their relationship and the support they receive from their family prevented those comparisons from becoming a major source of pressure.

According to Akshara, having a home environment where family members encourage each other allows them to focus on becoming the best versions of themselves. She suggested that external comparisons eventually become less important when there is a strong support system within the family.

Her comments also recall earlier remarks by her father, Kamal Haasan, about comparisons between himself and Superstar Rajinikanth. In an old television interview, Kamal rejected the idea that the two superstars were rivals. He explained that the perception of competition had largely been created by audiences and the film industry’s market dynamics.

Kamal had said that both actors were essentially on the same side and had allowed the rivalry narrative to continue because competition made the contest between them more interesting.

Akshara is currently associated with the science-fiction film ‘Simulacra’, directed by Pankaj Sawant. The movie, in which she plays a character named Nivi, began streaming on Waves OTT in July. Satyajeet Dubey is also part of the cast.

Akshara entered the film industry with R Balki’s ‘Shamitabh’ in 2015, sharing the screen with Dhanush and Amitabh Bachchan. She later appeared in Ajith’s ‘Vivegam’ and Vikram’s ‘Kadaram Kondan’.
